Ku’Gath the Plaguefather has moved to Dragonfang Mountain at the southern end of the Dragon Isles, just below Grisus, which could be a problem. The Greasus player can attempt to access the sea by moving south. As his empire grows, he will have to deal with the fact that he will most likely be surrounded: Cathay to the east, whoever wins from Grimgor/Cholek to the north, and to the west there are noble elves and skaven who must look out.
Also, the settlements he’ll likely surround will be other minor ogre factions, so he’ll probably still be able to team up with the ones he can’t conquer. South of Grimgor and Kholek, Grisus exists in the heart of the Ogre Kingdoms with little to no resistance. If she can drive it out, it will be a strong empire occupying the central area between Lustria and Naggaroth.Īdditionally, it has two sea routes off its west coast: one connects it to the east coast of Great Cathay, then there is an underground sea route that allows it to exit Naggaroth’s north coast, opening a new flank for attack. To the north of her, there is a minidome of four legendary lords that she will have to control, but to the south, she only has the lizard lord Mazdamundi. Although she doesn’t have as much empty space as Grimgor and Kholek, she has little to no competition in her starting area around the ancient city of Quintex and in the provinces on either side of it, giving her access to various coastlines. The Dark Elf Shadow Queen also has a lot of cool stuff.
These starting positions are solid enough that even if you don’t choose either of these two yourself, you have to watch out for their AI drivers, which will multiply as the game progresses. Kholek has a potential ally in the Chaos Warrior Lord Archaon the Everchosen to the northwest, while Grimgor has two green-skinned brothers to the west, Azhag the Butcher and Skarsnik.
Go too far east and you’ll find forces from Great Cathay and Great Bastion, and Greasus Goldtooth ogres may spawn from the south. Otherwise they are surrounded by many small settlements in the immediate vicinity, or the hard map borders to the north. With Grimgor starting at Sabertooth Mountain and Kholek starting practically side by side at Summoning Stone, the only real problem these two have is with each other. These two gentlemen, for the Greenskins and Chaos Warriors respectively, represent two very interesting beginnings for those who want the space to grow without too much competition just yet. However, we take a look at the best starting positions now that we know where everyone starts, taking into account neighboring settlements, other lords, and potential conflicts. Its complicated though and I'm not sure what other people are interested in experiencing from the new Beastmen start positions. So we know where everyone starts, but who has the “best” starting position? Which legendary lord has the perfect place to start conquering the Old World? His mileage will vary depending on who he wants to play with, even if (for the sake of argument) one of the dark elf lords has the best starting locations objectively, it’s unlikely he’ll pick them if he doesn’t like not playing. Then put the FLC (Ghorros) in the Soutlands with the aim of moving up into Athel Loren and Bretonnia as the campaign goes on. I think the best solution would likely be to put Taurox in the Empire around the Vampire territory (stirland/ostland/ostermark) to help curb the ordertide, give the vamps more of a chance and give the player a cushion of non-playable factions to chew through. The current Beastmen start positions is another issue, a character like Ghorros would be perfect for Bretonnia considering all his lore is focused around the Wood Elves, but he'd be wedged between Morghur and Kazrak. 3.6K Off Topic General I'm assuming its going to be Beastmen VS Dark Elves, which makes Naggaroth the prime location (its also already has the largest population of beastmen in my experience), however, as you say, Naggaroth is so cramped right now, especially with the Sisters, that starting them in or around Malekith in ME would mean every direction you go leads to a very powerful LL and alot of major settlements.īeastmen thrive on minor settlements and open areas where they can hide early game, so this wouldn't work.2K A Total War Saga: Thrones of Britannia.846 A Total War Saga: Fall of the Samurai.
